Privacy Policy
Coastal Meander — Last updated May 2026
Coastal Meander is an independent, non-commercial nature documentary project run by one person in North Wales. This policy explains honestly and plainly what personal information is collected when you sign up to the newsletter, why it is collected, and what rights you have over it.
This policy is written in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for Coastal Meander is contactable at contact@coastal-meander.org.
What data is collected and why
The only personal data collected is your email address, and only if you choose to sign up to the newsletter. It is used for one purpose only: to send you newsletters and occasional updates about the Coastal Meander project.
Nothing else is collected — no name, no location, no device data, no tracking beyond what MailerLite (the newsletter platform) records for basic delivery purposes such as whether an email was delivered.
The legal basis for holding your data
Your data is held on the basis of consent — you signed up voluntarily. You can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing, and your data will be deleted promptly. There is no consequence to unsubscribing.
What UK GDPR requires — and what this project commits to
UK GDPR sets out a number of principles that govern how personal data must be handled. Here is what each one means in practice for Coastal Meander:
- Lawfulness, fairness and transparency — your data is only collected with your knowledge and consent, and only used for the purpose you signed up for. Nothing hidden.
- Purpose limitation — your email address will only ever be used to send you Coastal Meander newsletters. It will not be used for anything else.
- Data minimisation — only your email address is collected. No more information than is needed for the job.
- Accuracy — if you contact us to update your email address, this will be done promptly.
- Storage limitation — your email address is kept only for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, it is deleted. No archive of lapsed subscribers is maintained.
- Integrity and confidentiality — your data is stored securely within MailerLite's platform, which complies with GDPR. It is not stored anywhere else.
- No selling or sharing — your email address will never be sold, rented, shared with, or passed to any third party for any purpose, commercial or otherwise. Ever.
- No unsolicited contact — you will only receive emails you signed up for. You will not be added to any other lists.
Third-party services
Newsletters are managed and sent via MailerLite, which acts as a data processor on behalf of Coastal Meander. MailerLite is GDPR-compliant and stores data on servers within the EU/EEA. Their own privacy policy is available at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
No other third-party services receive your personal data.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data. To exercise any of them, contact contact@coastal-meander.org.
- The right to access — you can ask at any time what data is held about you.
- The right to rectification — you can ask for your data to be corrected if it is inaccurate.
- The right to erasure — you can ask for your data to be deleted at any time. Unsubscribing via any newsletter will also trigger deletion.
- The right to restrict processing — you can ask that your data be retained but not used while a concern is being looked into.
- The right to withdraw consent — you can withdraw your consent at any time with no negative consequence, simply by unsubscribing or emailing us.
- The right to object — you can object to your data being processed at any time.
- The right to complain — if you feel your data has been handled improperly, you have the right to raise a complaint with the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If anything changes about how data is handled, this page will be updated and the date at the top will reflect when it was last revised. Significant changes will be noted in the newsletter.
